Admission through KVPY

Admissions through Science Olympiads

In the academic year 2019-2020, CEBS will admit students through the following 3 routes:

1. THROUGH NEST (http://nestexam.in)

Students will be admitted based on merit-ranking in the NEST examination, as per rules. Please see http://nestexam.in for details.

Applications for admissions under NEST opens on January 7, 2019 and online application will close on March 11, 2019. Applications under NEST can be submitted only through the NEST 2019 website only.

2. THROUGH KVPY

12 students will be admitted under the KVPY category

Category-wise distribution of seats under KVPY

  1. General category - 6 students
  2. OBC category - 3 students
  3. SC category - 2 students
  4. ST category - 1 student

Qualifying criteria:

Students who have:

  • KVPY (SX 2019) and have passed their 12th standard or equivalent examination in 2019 are eligible to apply.  Students should have secured a minimum of 60% in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in the 12th standard board examination. For SC/ST and Divyang candidates, the requirement is 55% marks.
  • Students should have been born on or after August 1, 1999.  Age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST/Divyang candidates.
  • SC/ST candidates should produce the original certificate indicating their caste. If the certificate is not in Hindi or English, an authenticated translated copy, either in English or Hindi should be produced.
  • OBC-NCL certificate should be dated June 1, 2018 or later.  NCL certificates issued on earlier dates at NOT
  • Divyang candidates are those who have at least 40% impairment irrespective of the type of disability i.e., locomotor, visual or dyslexic. Leprosy cured candidates who are otherwise fit to pursue the course are also included in this sub-category. Candidates are advised to ensure that the certificate is in accordance with the latest guidelines of the Government of India (visit the web site of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Disability Affairs for latest information). 

Selection will be based on rank obtained in KVPY examination. In the event of more than one student having same rank, the marks obtained in 12th standard will be the deciding factor.

Applications opens on March 15 and closes on 1 July.

3. SCIENCE OLYMPIAD MEDALLISTS - SUPERNUMERY

Eligibility

Medallists of Science Olympiads are welcome to apply for admission. Please note that students who have secured medals in any of the following International Science Olympiads only are eligible to apply:

  1. International Chemistry Olympiad
  2. International Mathematical Olympiad
  3. International Physics Olympiad
  4. International Biology Olympiad
  5. International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics

Gold/silver/bronze medallists are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to Gold Medallists followed by Silver and Bronze.

About Us

CBS was set up by the Department of Atomic Energy and the University of Mumbai in 2007. CBS offers a 5 year integrated MSc program in Basic Sciences, with undergraduate teaching embedded in a postgraduate and research environment, for students who have completed 10+2 schooling or its equivalent.
